Westermo Singapore industrial networking workshop

Supporting the need for greater data network security and reliability, Westermo has held a one day industrial networking workshop in Singapore. Entitled `Industrial networking: Creating a resilient network’, the workshop provided attendees from the region with hands-on experience designing and configuring resilient data communications networks.

The event was attended by data communications engineers, technicians, project and field engineers responsible for installing and maintaining networks. Building on a previous Westermo event held in June, which provided delegates with an understanding of the fundamentals of industrial networking, this latest course enabled attendees to apply their knowledge within a series of specially designed practical sessions.

After a quick recap of the fundamentals covering Layer 2 networking, VLANs, Layer 3 routing and IP v4 addressing, delegates were guided through the basics of enhancing resiliency, the different type of network protocols available and network design. The hands-on sessions focused on building resilient networks, specifically creating redundancy within different network topologies, network segregation, configuring alarms and performing network monitoring.

“Critical communications and processes require greater network resiliency. Westermo networking solutions helps to provide this, but it is essential that network engineers responsible for these networks are provided with the necessary training and information to help them,” explained Kenneth Isacsson, Westermo Vice President Asia. “Westermo is at the forefront of industrial network solutions and ideally placed to support the market with not only advanced technology, but also expert advice from our experienced technical experts. The workshops provide the perfect way of gaining hands-on experience of implementing more secure and resilient networks in an offline situation.”

“We have used industrial networks in a recent railway project. This involved server to server and client system communication, as well as routing to convert one IP to another IP,“ explained attendee Arulmani Natarajan, Systems Engineer, CNA Development Pte Ltd. “The Westermo course will help with configuration of VLANs for the Ethernet switches in future projects.”

“We often have project requirements for network switches, ring topologies, media converters and SMS modems. We need to provide an optimised solution that offers redundancy and is robust to ensure high availability of data. We provide site engineering and configuration. This course will help me to configure devices more efficiently and effectively,” said Anujkumar Singh, Sr. Project Lead, ABB Pte Ltd.
